Intercultural Nights during IGNITE

As part of the IGNITE training program, three intercultural nights were organized to celebrate the diverse cultural backgrounds of the participants. These events provided an opportunity for participants to share their traditions, cuisine, music, and customs, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other's cultures. The intercultural nights were held on the evenings of November 18th, 19th, and 23rd.

Intercultural Night 1: Spain, Italy, and Cyprus | 18/11/2023

- Cultural Presentations: Participants from Spain, Italy, and Cyprus gave presentations about their countries, highlighting key aspects of their culture, history, and significant contributions to the world.

- Traditional Cuisine: Each country prepared a selection of traditional dishes for participants to taste. The Spanish participants brought tapas, the Italians served cheese and sweets, and the Cypriots offered traditional pastries.

- Music and Dance: The night featured traditional music and dance performances from each country. Participants were invited to join and learn the steps, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere.

- Games and Customs: Traditional games and customs were introduced, allowing everyone to engage in fun and educational activities.

Intercultural Night 2: Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine | 19/11/2023

- Cultural Presentations: Participants from Bulgaria, Romania, and Ukraine shared detailed presentations about their cultural heritage, national holidays, and famous landmarks.

- Traditional Cuisine: The culinary offerings included dishes that provided a delicious insight into the culinary traditions of each country.

- Music and Dance: Traditional folk music and dance were showcased, with participants teaching others traditional dance steps. The vibrant and energetic performances were a highlight of the evening.


Intercultural Night 3: Portugal and Farewell Night | 23/11/2023

- Cultural Presentation: The final intercultural night focused on Portugal. Participants shared insights into Portuguese culture, including its history, famous figures, and cultural practices.

- Traditional Cuisine: A variety of Portuguese dishes were prepared, including bacalhau (salted cod), pastéis de nata (custard tarts), and regional wines.

- Music and Dance: Fado, the traditional Portuguese music genre, was performed, and participants were invited to learn traditional Portuguese dances.

- Farewell Celebrations: As it was the last night, the event also included farewell speeches. Participants reflected on their experiences throughout the week and shared their thoughts and feelings.


The intercultural nights were a success, enriching the overall experience of the IGNITE training program. They provided a platform for cultural exchange, fostered mutual respect and understanding, and created a sense of unity among participants. These evenings not only celebrated diversity but also highlighted the importance of cultural competence in youth work, aligning perfectly with the objectives of the IGNITE program.
